Chased By An Elephant
(Polokwane South Africa)
I was driving with a pickup truck (bakkie) on a gravel/dirt road and an elephant was chasing me. I could see it in my rear-view mirror. It was gaining on me. Suddenly my cell phone rang and one of my female colleagues tells me that I should be on the lookout for a troublesome elephant in the region. I do not answer her as the elephant is almost upon me; I just throw the phone down. I do a handbrake turn with the elephant missing me by inches and head back to the tar road with the elephant almost hitting again just as I turn into the tar road. I lose the elephant for a bit but it feels as if the truck is just not picking up speed and the elephant is gaining on me again. It does not try to hit me again and as it is almost next to my vehicle now, I see that the elephant is actually underfed and in poor condition. My alarm clock went off and it felt as if I woke up before the dream was finished.
At first I felt very agitated and scared then at the end when I looked at the elephant I felt worried and almost sad.
I work at a Law Firm where the directors are husband and wife. There is a rumor in the office, which sometimes seems very true, that they have marital problems and that the husband is having an affair with the female colleague that phoned me in the dream. I know for a fact that they do not live together anymore. I have worked for this firm for 15 years. Although the husband is the one having the affair I really have a lot of respect for him as a person and a boss. The general feeling in the office is that he is a good gay, a peoples person, always prepared to listens to his employees, whereas the wife as a boss, is only work orientated (workaholic) and does not care about her employee’s family life. The first person I thought of as I woke up was my boss, the husband.
