Rapid eye movement behaviour disorder (RBD) is when the sleeper acts out their dreams in a violent or dramatic manner whilst engaged in REM sleep. Generally, these dreams are vivid, intense, and violent and accompanied by yelling, punching, kicking, sitting, jumping from bed, arm flailing and grabbing.
Symptoms of RBD
Some of the symptoms of RBD are:
Acting out violent, vivid dreams
Violent behaviours such as hitting, yelling, punching, kicking, or thrashing about in or out of the bed
Waking from sleep with injuries such as bruises, bumps and cuts
Speech or sounds during sleep
Sleepiness during the daytime
Temporary muscle paralysis
